Study in Latvia

Placed in North Eastern Europe, by the Baltic Sea, Latvia has always been a multi-ethnic country and

rich in different cultural and education traditions and sees its role as a bridge between the East and the West. The higher education institutions in Latvia are members of international cooperation within many different fields of study.

The key tourist attractions are concentrated in Riga, the Latvian capital. In the Old Town of Riga you

can enjoy middle age architecture such as the Riga castle, the Dome and the House of Blackheads. Latvia can also offer beautiful national parks and historical heritage remains outside of the capital city.

The country is a relatively new study destination and there is no dearth in terms of prospects and streams of study in Latvia.   The system of higher education in the country follows the Bologna process and therefore follows the highest level of academic and professional studies. Compared to other countries in the European Union, the cost of the living and study are also comparatively affordable. The universities of the country are known for training the best and high proficient IT and engineering graduates.EU membership also means that the degrees earned by the universities are equivalent to other European universities and are also globally recognized. The system of education in the country is divided into State financed and fee paying education institutions. The country is attractive, lively, enriching and cosmopolitan in nature.

Visa

International students are advised to contact the Latvian Embassy in their home country to receive detailed information about how to complete a residence permit application. You can get information about where to find the closest embassy from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

EU citizens have the right to reside in Latvia and do not need to apply for a residence permit.

The number of guest workers is growing, and this trend is unlikely to change. However, it is difficult to forecast how the numbers of foreigner workers in Latvian enterprises will grow. Last year the number of the guest workers was almost 5000, somewhat more than might be forecast for 2008 if the current trend remains steady
